The US Department of Defense warns of serious cyber attacks expected during the 2018 Winter Olympics

The Department of Homeland Security warns Americans planning to attend the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyongyang that cyber criminals are likely to target the games. South Korean officials face a double threat. At the security headquarters of the Olympic Committee at a non-characteristic facility in Pyongyang, security experts from around the world are monitoring threats from North Korean pirates looking for computer networks that run South Korean financial networks, infrastructure and vital infrastructure for years

While some people believe that diplomatic efforts have eased North Korea's threat to the Olympics, others are bracing for the impact of a crackdown by Russian groups in response to a ban on Russian athletes. Security companies said the groups had successfully targeted the computer systems of the Olympic organizations for months. Just how these superheroes can lead to broader attacks is not clear. But cybersecurity researchers say the Olympic Games, which are digitized more than ever, are mature targets for hackers looking for embarrassing information for everyone from athletes to regulators or simply looking for problems with scoring or lighting manipulation

Safe McAfee said last month more than 300 Olympic-related computers had already been hit, many of them at risk on Friday, and the second phase of the attack appeared to be going on. The attackers took data from the victims' Their computer,

"The Olympic Games involve many countries, many sports, many of which have their own infrastructure, and have become a rich environment that targets many adversaries," said John Holcist, intelligence director at Veri Security. He has been following the activities of Russian pirates and other groups as they lay the foundation for attacks on Olympic organizations. In the past few months, Mr. Holkiste said, his team at Verié saw several examples of Russian groups tampering with computers from Olympic-related organizations. "This activity is clearly aimed at pulling the organizations involved in the Olympic Games through mud and discrediting them," he said

The Russian cyber spy group known as Fancy Pier, which was linked to the break-up of the 2016 National Democratic Committee, which has links to Russia's main military intelligence unit, started spreading hacked emails aimed at highlighting the dispute between global sports officials and investigators who have been exposed to systemic steroids Russian. Last month, the group published e-mails and other online documents from the International Log Union, claiming it had shown violations of anti-drug rules. Earlier in January, the group issued e-mails and documents from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), declaring it to be evidence that "Europeans and Anglo-Saxons are fighting for power and criticism in the sporting world
